Where I Stand

It is an important responsibility to serve as County Commissioner and I take the financial situation facing Boone County today very seriously.  It is up to US as Boone County residents to come together and I need YOUR help! I do not have all the answers and this must be a campaign for the people.

I believe we must:

1. We must do all we can to attract new businesses to our county and diversify our tax base to improve the revenue streams to this county. The key to diversification is the Hobet/Rock Creek Project. The National Guard is putting resources and infrastructure on site that will benefit not only Boone County but Southern West Virginia. This can be a transformative moment for our county and the county commission must work hard to ensure the scope of this project does not change.

2. We must maximize our money- fiscal responsibility is of the utmost importance for Boone County today. We must spend our money wisely and in a way which  benefits our citizens. This tax money does not belong to the politicians - it belongs to YOU - the taxpayers of Boone County.

3. We must do more to combat the drug epidemic facing our county. I attended an opioid conference at Sherman High School in January. The WV School for Osteopathic Medicine and WVU want to combat the drug epidemic in Southern West Virginia. We must see if this program is a fit for our county and if it is, pursue it aggressively. We must support programs like the Lighthouse Recovery Group as they work to end the cycle of drug dependence in Boone County.

4. To improve public safety, one must do more to improve cell service county wide. Lincoln County recently, through a series of grants from the Federal Government, has increased cell coverage throughout their county- increasing communication and safety for the public.

5. We must clean up Boone County. There is not enough money in the county budget to reopen the transfer stations. I will work with all private entities in an effort to reopen the transfer stations for the citizens of Boone County.
